Alex Cooper’s Call Her Alex Documentary, Spotify at Cannes, and Netflix Dabbles in Podcasts

Hey everybody. Welcome to Poduty in the News for Monday, June

16, 2025. I'm Jeff. I'm your host. We've got some great

stories coming your way. Call Her Daddy on Hulu,

Spotify beach and Netflix podcasts.

He's back on the mic after tearing his heel. Skateboard said

nope. Now he's got time to heal. But the news doesn't stop and neither

does Jeff. It's Poe duty in the news. Let's take a deep breath. Alex

Cooper's got a doc and a tour on deck from podcast

empire. What the heck? Spotify sun soaked and canc with Cardi

b Flair serving playlists and soft serving Paris Hilton hair. Then

Netflix says maybe, just maybe, they'll stream your video

podcast on the big red screen. Austin summoning

podcasters from every scene with PRX and Apple. Call it Podcam

Supreme. Boston gets rowdy with the Friends Only crew. No filters,

just fire and some tea bags too. So grab your mic, your phone or

your brew. It's Monday with Jeff and Poe duty and the news.

All right, we've got some great stories coming your way. Five new stories

for Monday, June 16th. Starting off

with Call Her Alex. This one's filed under from Call Her

Daddy to Call Her Icon. I'm pretty excited about this

story. It's a new two part documentary. Call Her Alex

dives deep into the rise of podcasting powerhouse Alex

Cooper as she prepares for her first live tour.

Directed by Ry Russo Young, the film traces

Cooper's evolution from a self conscious Pennsylvania teen

to an unapologetic voice behind Call Her Daddy,

a show that reshaped the way women talk about sex, identity and self

worth. More than just a career highlight reel,

the doc is an intimate look at the milestones and mindset that

turned Cooper into a media mogul and her role model.

It's a front row seat into the making of a modern

podcast empire. And throughout this whole story, it's a great

background story about Alex Cooper and the whole time

she's piecing together this show that she's taking on the road and.

And that's what this podcast is about. Paduti in the news. This is what

my theater is about. Putting together live

events from your podcast. And no one does it better than Alex

Cooper. Check out the video. There is some adult content.

A lot of you might not be comfortable with the content that's contained in here.

There's some language and very adult content, but

check it out and see what's possible. See what you can do.

See what levels you can Take your podcast. Our second story,

Spotify Beach. We're sipping soft serve and streaming

stardom. Spotify is making waves again at the Canes

Lions International Festival of Creativity with

the return of their Spotify Beach, a four day experience

blending live performances, celebrity panels and

immersive brand activations. From Paris Hilton

to Charlie Puth to Cardi B and Mark Ronson,

Spotify is showcasing its power as a cultural

playground for creators, fans and advertisers alike.

Featuring podcast chats with the world's leading authors, actors,

creators and musicians, the event celebrates how

sound drives emotion, storytelling and engagement.

It's Spotify in real life, where the vibe is high,

the beach is branded and the creativity

never hits pause. Just a super cool event coming up,

bringing podcasters together, bringing advertisers together. It really is

Spotify in real life. So if you want to check out what it'd be

like to have the app come to life, check out Spotify

Beach. All right, our third story tonight, we're filing under

now Streaming the Podcast wars and In a

recent interview, Netflix co CEO Ted

Sarandos hinted at the company's growing interest

in video forward podcasting and independent creators.

Speaking with Nikhil Kamath, Sarando has noted the

shift towards watching podcasts on TV screens and and

suggested that some creators might find a future home on

Netflix with a better monetization opportunities and

traditional open platforms. While Netflix isn't fully

diving into the space yet, Sarando has made it clear they're watching

closely as storytelling continues to evolve across

formats. His advice to creators? Don't chase

trends. Tell the story that has to be told. And,

and one of the flags that we've seen recently is Netflix

produced an episode of the Kill Tony podcast. And that's a,

that's a one of the largest live podcasts in the world. If not,

it is the largest live podcast in the world. Tony Hinchcliffe

fills Madison Square Garden, the H E B

Center in Austin. They're doing these massive live events

and Netflix got wind of it and produced an episode on Netflix. If you go

to Netflix right now, you can watch an episode of Kill Tony and like

the Alex Cooper, there's some language and some parental discussion

discretion there. Don't go watching that with everybody. But this is

happening. This is what our theater is about. Here in Tarentum,

the Poduty Podcast theater is building events

specifically for podcasters to get in front of a live

audience to record a live show and live stream it.

We're building on this momentum that's happening in the world already

and if you're in Austin, we'll file this one under Deep in the Podcast

of Texas. From June 16th to the

18th, Austin podcasters are coming together for the PRX

Podcast Creator Summit, a free multi

day event hosted at Apple's campus, offering

guidance from top Texas journalists, producers and

storytellers with sessions like Being a Team of

One and why Austin Is the Next Big Thing in

Podcasting, the summit supports everyone from solo creators

to newsroom veterans. Sponsored by public media

powerhouse prx, the event explores everything from true

crime trends to classroom podcasting. With

plenty of networking and pitch opportunities. It's proof that

Austin isn't just keeping it weird, it's keeping it

podcasting. So one of the things I want to start adding in to news

stories, I want to connect people to events around the neighborhood and

maybe this one is near you. If you want to network and get with

podcasters, go to these types of events. This one's June 16th

through 18th in Austin. Podcaster Creator Summit. All the

links for all these stories are in the show notes

and our final story of the night,

file this one under Group Chat goes irl.

We got two IRL references tonight. The Friends

Only podcast, hosted by Internet icons Meredith

Lynch, Molly McClear and Rob

Schultz, is bringing its chronologically online

energy. It's Chronically is bringing its chronically

online energy to Boston for two back to back nights of hot

takes and digital drama. Night one is on June

25th at Laugh Boston featuring PR

expert Molly McPherson and night two best

friends only at City Winery includes stand up

memes and Chaos with special guests Carolina

Montesquieu and Square One Mall Goth.

From viral explainers to unapologetic commentary, this tour

delivers real time reactions, zero filters

and maximum tea. It's the group chat you wish you were

in live, loud and leaking secrets on stage.

Just another great example of what you can do and

what is possible with your podcast. It's incredible.

When I started this theater a year ago, I couldn't find

things like this and now I started this podcast. This is

episode nine I believe. I couldn't find any stories

three, four months ago and now I'm finding five, six stories

a week. I'm even passing on some stories now. So if you're
